The Territory

Fattoria il Casalone is located along the coastal strip of the Tuscan Maremma, in front of the eastern lagoon of Orbetello. In an area of unique beauty, where the gaze meets the vastness of the sea and the grandeur of a still wild land, the combination of land and vine becomes extraordinary.

This is a green oasis where the proximity to the sea and the presence of reliefs protecting the north-east side allow a mild climate in winter and dry in summer mitigated by the precious sea breezes.

In the final period of grape ripening, the nights are cool and the significant temperature range guarantees optimal conditions for the accumulation processes, in particular of aromatic substances.

The vineyards of Il Cucchetto and Poggio Colombi are located in higher plots, sloping towards the sea, with silty and sandy soils, deep, with a frank-clayey texture, rich in skeleton and with excellent drainage.

The vineyards closer to the sea have a sandier soil, with very fine and light pebbles capable of giving greater aromas to the wine; these soils rich in magnesium are ideal for Vermentino and Viognier, giving our Leopoldino and Pitorsino an excellent structure.
